Ben McNaboe Wins Hebert Award, Tom Snow '87 Performs

In an all-school assembly on Friday, January 14th, Ben McNaboe '11 was awarded the Hector Hebert Award. Bob Demont '73, former President of the YAA, made the presentation.

McNaboe, son of Michael McNaboe '89 and Melissa Flaherty McNaboe '90, has been active in a wide variety of activities at YHS. He is President of the Student Senate, has been stage manager for several of the fall musicals, and is Editor of the 2011 Yearbook. Dear to Mr. Hebert's heart, he has taken piano lessons for seven years and plays the tenor saxophone in both the concert band and the jazz band. Athletically, he has participated in skiing and crew.

In addition, Ben has worked countless hours with the YHS Technical Coordinator Alice Barr and her colleagues in the IT department, helping to set-up laptops for incoming student, and assisting in the establishment of policies and guidelines for student use of computers. He is one of the Student Ambassadors who lead visitors to YHS around the school to show them our IT capabilities. Ben and another student have created a podcast which discusses computer matters.

Given Hector Hebert's love of jazz, the YHS Jazz Band always performs a couple of jazz pieces at this assembly. This year noted local pianist Tom Snow '87 played a couple of jazz numbers as well. Tom noted that the piano was the same one he played while at YHS in the 1980s. This year's Hebert Assembly might mark the last public performance on that piano, as the capital campaign to purchase a new piano is nearing completion.
