Girls Ski Team Wins States, Playmakers Advance

On the sports front, the big news at the end of the winter sports season was the triumph of the Girls ski team, who won the State Class B championship once again. For the first time, the MSPA separated the Nordic and Alpine events, with the former being at Sugarloaf during the February vacation, and the latter being held at Mt. Abram on Feb 28th & Mar 1st. In winning the overall title, the girls placed first in Nordic and second in Alpine.

Here are the results of other teams who competed in the State Championships:

Boys Basketball Defeated Cape in the Western Class B Quarter Finals, lost to Greely in the Semis, finishing their season with a record of 15-5.

Boys Hockey Lost to Kennebunk in the Western Class B Quarter Finals, finishing their season with a 11-7-1 record.

Boys Skiing In the Class B States, they won the Nordic, but placed 7th in Alpine, resulting in a 3rd place finish behind Maranacook and Freeport.

Girls Swimming Led by Abby Belisle Haley '14, daughter of Lisa Belisle '88, the small team of seven swimmers capped a fine season with a 6th place finish in the Class B championships.

Track A number of boys and girls qualified for the States. Emma Egan '16, daughter of Cindy Flanders '89, Darren Hamre '14, and Darren Shi '15 all qualified for the New Englands.

Just this last week-end, the Playmakers' production of "Josephine's Stories" garnered first place in a regional competition at Marshwood High School. The play, based on stories by Rudyard Kipling, was adapted for the stage by Amelia French '14, daughter of Jed French '83. YHS is hosting the Class B Drama Championships on March 21st-22nd, so come on down to see it!!
