Volleyball Wins State Championship, Boys' Soccer Advances

In an exciting match played at Windham High School on Saturday, the volleyball team won its second Class B championship by defeating Washington Academy. The team lost the first two sets, but rallied in dramatic fashion to win the next two and the tie-breaker decisively. Led by captains Grace Mallett '14 and Maddy Maierhoffer '14, the team finished the season with a record of 15-1, losing only to Class A Cape Elizabeth in an early season match. Last Sunday's Portland Press Herald ran a full story on the match.

In other action over the week-end, the football team's season ended on Friday night when Cape Elizabeth defeated the Clippers in a Western Class C Quarterfinal contest, 27-14. Perhaps with this game in mind, the Boys' soccer team stormed by the Capers on Saturday night by a score of 5-0. They will play Greely on Wednesday in Yarmouth at 7:00 pm for the Western Class B championship.

The cross country teams completed their seasons on Saturday, competing in the Class B championships at the Twin Brooks course in Cumberland. The Girls' team finished 4th in a field of fourteen, while Boys' finished 12th amongst fourteen schools. Congratulations to both teams for qualifying for the States. Braden Becker '14 placed 6th in the boys race, qualifying him for the New England championships.
