Carol Burdick died at her home in Alfred Station, NY on April 12, 2008. Teaching English at YHS at a time of upheaval in the history of our country, she was beloved by many of her students. After leaving Yarmouth, she continued her teaching career at Alfred University, where she received numerous honors and awards. Elizabeth Hutchinson, former faculty member
Elizabeth Hutchinson died on May 25, 2008 after battling brain cancer for a year. Mrs. Hutchinson taught French at YHS from 2005-2007. Very popular with her students, she presided over a lively classroom and used many games in her language teaching.
Before coming to YHS, Liz had taught at Trinity Pawling School in Pawling, NY, and at Sandwich High School in Massachusetts before moving to Maine with her family in 2005. She is survived by her husband John and two daughters, Laura and Christa.
Christine Burr Blanchard, former librarian
Christine Burr Blanchard died on March 14, 2008. Before ending her teaching career as librarian at Yarmouth High School from 1967 until the mid-1970s, Mrs. Blanchard had taught English in several school systems, including Falmouth. She is survived by her two sons, nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Ray Crowley, Faculty member, 1966-91
Long time guidance counselor Ray Crowley passed away on February 9, 2008 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. After starting his counseling career at Lisbon High School in 1958, Ray came to Yarmouth High School in 1966 and remained head of the guidance department for twenty-five years. After retirement Ray pursued a variety of activities, including gardening, fishing, golf, and skiing. He volunteered for the Maine Handicapped Program at Sunday River.
Ray is survived by his wife Pat, a former teacher at the Yarmouth Elementary School, and six children, all YHS graduates: Cynthia Crowley Ballew ’75, Laurie Crowley Oliver ’76, Tim Crowley ’78, Dan Crowley ’81, John Crowley ’82, and Anne Crowley ’83.
