Charles “Chuck” Eaton died on December 14, 2008 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Among his survivors are his daughter Sherry, son Chad, and grandson Nicholas.
Diane Soule Cunningham ’69
After a long battle with cancer, Diane Cunningham died on December 5, 2008 in Freeport. After getting her nursing degree from the Maine Medical Center of Radiology, Diane worked at Mid-Coast Hospital for thirty-six years. She is survived by her husband Paul of Freeport, brothers Merton, Dan, Charles, and John, and numerous nieces and nephew.
Ruth Dupont MacLean ’76
Ruth Dupont MacLean died on August 19, 2008 at her home in Yarmouth following a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, John, and her sons Peter ’00 and Roderick ’03.
Carol Burdick, English teacher, 1967-73
Carol Burdick died at her home in Alfred Station, NY on April 12, 2008. Teaching English at YHS at a time of upheaval in the history of our country, she was beloved by many of her students. After leaving Yarmouth, she continued her teaching career at Alfred University, where she received numerous honors and awards. An accomplished author, she wrote several books, a collection of poetry, and magazine articles. The link below provides more details of her life.
Elizabeth Hutchinson, former faculty member
Elizabeth Hutchinson died on May 25, 2008 after battling brain cancer for a year. Mrs. Hutchinson taught French at YHS from 2005-2007. Very popular with her students, she presided over a lively classroom and used many games in her language teaching.
Before coming to YHS, Liz had taught at Trinity Pawling School in Pawling, NY, and at Sandwich High School in Massachusetts before moving to Maine with her family in 2005. She is survived by her husband John and two daughters, Laura and Christa.
