Kenneth Nye, 70, of Freeport died on October 19, 2012 after long and courageous battles with Parkinson’s Disease and cancer. A celebration of his life was held at the First Universalist Church in Yarmouth on Saturday, October 27th, with several hundred family, friends, and professional colleagues in attendance.
Ken came to YHS in 1984, after serving as Assistant Principal and Principal of Rumford, ME High School since 1971. Very popular with students, faculty, and parents, Ken instituted the Advisor Program and Career Exploration Programs during his tenure here. Ken left YHS in 1994 to become a professor at USM in the Department of Educational Leadership, where he mentored aspiring school administrators until his retirement in 2006. A man with many interests throughout his life, he discovered his gift for writing poetry late in life, and published four books of poetry.
