At the annual all-school assembly on the Friday before Memorial Day, Katie Waeldner was awarded the Boyd Award on the 50th anniversary of Robert Boyd’s death. Scott Harrison ’80, a previous winner, made the presentation.
The Boyd Award capped an outstanding career for Katie at YHS. In her sophomore year, she won the Ruth B. Plummer Citizen Ship Award and attended the Maine Youth Leadership Conference, and as a junior she won the Wellesley Book Award. She has been very active in community experience, helping to found a program called Lunch Crunch, a summer meals program. In addition, she started a voucher program with the Yarmouth Farmer’s Market to support seniors who experience food insecurity. Because of this she was awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
Katie has played varsity lacrosse, varsity skiing, cross country, and participated in Unified Basketball. She will attend Duke University in the fall. Congratulations Katie!!
