Sally Barchard ’65

June 2, 2015

Sally Barchard of Falmouth died on May 31, 2015 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She worked for forty-two years for the Fred S. James Insurance Company. An active woman, Sally had an many interests: painting in water colors, kayaking, gardening, and music.

Sally was predeceased by his sister, Linda Barchard Pyles ’65. A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth on Saturday, June 6th. A full obituary appeared in the Portland Press Herald on June 2nd.

Richard Bowie ’63

May 6, 2015

Richard Bowie died suddenly of a heart attack on November 21, 2013 in Assonet, MA. After graduating from the University of Maine, Portland, Rick entered the Naval OCS program in 1967. He served on several naval vessels during the Vietman War.

Rick married his classmate Travis Markham Bowe, who survives him. They settled in Dartmouth, MA where they raised their three children. Rick worked for several businesses in the area over the years, and was very active in church and civic affairs.

Thomas E. Wood ’73

Tom Wood died at the Maine Medical Center on March 27th, 2015 after a brief illness. Tom worked as a carpenter in the Greater Portland area.

Among his survivors are his sister, Sandra Wood Wilson ’67 and her husband Mark Wilson ’65, and his nephews Aaron Wilson ’94 and Brett Wilson ’99. His full obituary appeared in the Portland Press Herald on April 1st, 2015.

Harold W. Moulton, Jr. ’63

March 20, 2015

Harold “Butch” Moulton of Yarmouth died unexpectedly on March 5th in Pompano Beach, Florida. A five sport letter-winner at YHS, Butch continued his athletic career at USM, and was later inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame. After marrying in 1968, he and his wife Rosemary lived in Massachusetts for a while before returning to Yarmouth, where they raised their children and Butch developed a construction business. For a number of years they have wintered in Florida.

Butch was predeceased by his brother Tom ’76. Among his survivors are his wife Rosemary O’Brien Moulton ’64, and daughter Melissa Moulton Black ’88. The March 19th edition of The Forecaster carried his obituary.

Steven R. Williams ’88

March 11, 2015

Steve Williams passed away at his home in Portland, OR on November 6, 2014. He received his B.A. in Theater Arts from USM in 1993, and remained a passionate musician and song writer all his life.

His real passion, however, was sailing, and he became a professional instructor and coach. Starting at the Portland Yacht Club, he ran sailing programs and coached in several states and the Virgin Islands before settling in Portland, OR, where he coached sailing teams at Reed College, Lewis & Clark College, and Portland State University, as well as running the program at the Willamette Sailing Club.

Among his survivors is his sister Kristin ’86.
